You dress me up like a porcelain doll
In silk dresses and taffeta bows
With patent leather shoe on my dainty little feet
For you to savour their looks of amusement
That you can hold someone like me by your side
With my hair jet black and skin like snow;
Eyes surrounded by kohl and lips as red as blood;
There is little need to show me that I dont fit in.
All I have ever learnt from your love
Is to sit, listen and look.
I am kept locked up in my cage
In an immaculate ivory tower
That even my worthy Prince will never find
Through love I had to learn the truth
As painless as you have tried to make it
I sleep alone behind gossamer curtains
My eyes are bleeding black tears
Those pretty golden scissors you once bought for embroidery
Have scratched me a dozen times again
Droplets of deep red run down my arms
The only feeling I have in my existence;
Yet-
I will hide from you behind the silk shawl
To cover my wounds from your view
As you lead me from my cage to the arena
In a new corset and shoes
With my hair in the latest French fashion,
So I can start it all over again.
